Welcome to our new forum and crypto community!
My name is Candy Davis, CPA, CGA, your nerdy colleague solidly stuck at the intersection of taxation and crypto assets/digital assets. It's a wild ride- the juxtaposition of old tax rules and modern, never before seen digital technologies. Somewhere in the middle is me!
I will endeavor to maintain an active presence on in this community and help us foster the discourse necessary to learn, grow, and explore together as this fast changing industry sweeps us up and carries us into the new world of accounting and tax.
About me:
I've been involved with crypto since it's inception! I was mining the original Bitcoin in 2010. I've experienced the first ever exchanges and, unfortunately, the famous collapse of Mt. Gox. In the early 2010's, I was part of a BTC community in Edmonton that endeavored to promote Bitcoin and educate the public about it's potential uses. We even assisted local small business, at that time, to integrate the acceptance of Bitcoin as part of their payment methods. We printed paper wallets (old school) and then my friend launched the first ever BTC ATMs in the country. What a wild time that was!
I'm not the most tech savvy, compared to my circle- the inner workings of the blockchain and programming I understand at a surface level but I'm bested by my computer programmer friends who delved deep into that world and continue to be active developers in the Web 3 world. My contribution to the advancement of the crypto asset world has been the dissection of it's properties and the application of taxation legislation in Canada. This is an area that changes rapidly, daily even, and my work is constantly evolving. I provide advisory services, sit on digital asset committees related to taxation, policy, advocation, and liaise between different group and stakeholders in Canada. In addition, I provide tax services across the country to various types of clients- all with a crypto component.
Everyday, there is something new to learn- and I can hardly say I know it all. The technology develops faster and faster and so does the need for qualified professional advisors. It's not an industry for the faint of heart or the uninspired. However, it is challenging, thought provoking, and exciting! If that's your cup of tea- and you're humble enough to admit that you don't know what you don't know... then this is the space for you!
